On Wednesday, December 11, 2019, the Poudre Overlook HOA Board had their first meeting since the contentious Annual Meeting, in which the Niners (aka Poudre Overlook Advocates) lost for the second time in a 46-17 vote their attempt to expand the board from 5 persons to 9 persons. After losing that vote, the Niners, who were primarily represented by Walker and Buck (who held 11 total votes, including their proxies, or 11 of 17 of the votes against keeping the Board at 5) stormed out of the meeting, and didn’t even vote on the two open seats.

I checked in with the Board about a week after to see if there was any new effort to be disruptive to the community, and when I was told there was not, I considered the matter finally over, and the dawning of at least a temporary peace could begin. Premature wishful thinking, I think would be the correct way to label my optimism.

Just prior to this Wednesday meeting, I followed up again to see the agenda, since it wasn’t posted on the new website. Once it was posted, I was surprised to see an agenda item for “neighborhood hostilities”. I literally thought “Uh, oh. What’s this about?”

That’s when I found out that someone went to our President’s home and had a confrontation at his front door. Litigation was intimated. Not good.

So, I thought carefully about going. And, ultimately, given the past history, well documented on this site, I decided that it would be best to have confidence in our new board. I could review the meeting later.

I didn’t get a chance to listen to the meeting until late Thursday, and I listened to the first hour while I was working. At 59:11 in the recording, the topic was opened. Meg gave some initial good comments, but it quickly spiraled out of control within 5 minutes – and leading the way were, once again, Walker and Irve.

At this point, while I had hoped we had moved past the issues and settled them with a democratic vote, clearly, these two will never respect the democratic decisions of the members of this HOA. It’s also clear that the airing of grievances at this meeting wasn’t cathartic. For all the talk of healing, it’s insincere.

Meanwhile, the state legislature, which is considering alternative approaches to dealing with these issues, can’t move quick enough to solve our dilemma. If we cannot have a democratic vote and have it respected, then we have a problem that will persist.

And, that’s the point: We have one of this group who stated clearly that they acknowledged TWO votes defeating the idea of 9 board members by votes that were overwhelming. Yet, he stated it still wasn’t “right”.

Stay tuned, because, clearly, there’s much work to be done in the future to return this community to peace.
